Alec Ybarra is a Director of Photography with heavy experience in independent films, from narrative features to documentaries. Alec has a reputation for prioritizing the creation of a visual palette that is always true to the character dynamics of the screenplay. Most recently, he shot a powerful short documentary in the mountains of Peru and lensed the upcoming psychological feature film The Silicant, which went to the 2025 Marché du Film to seek distribution. Additionally, his short film The Place Where Souls Leap Into Eternity will be featured as a Daily Pick Premiere on Film Shortage. His feature film Charlie was distributed by Indie Rights and is available on major streaming platforms. Drawing inspiration from Arthouse cinema, he brings a unique perspective to each film. Outside of filmmaking, Alec enjoys swimming at any of L.A.’s fabulous beaches, traveling, and reading theology.
